Located in the heart of Paris, Notre Dame Cathedral is a stunning example of Gothic architecture and one of France's most famous landmarks. Built in the 12th century, the cathedral has a rich history and has witnessed some of the most important events in French history.


Construction of the cathedral began in 1163 and took him over two centuries to complete. The cathedral has many intricate details and beautiful stained glass windows that demonstrate the skill and craftsmanship of the architects and artists who worked on the project. One of the cathedral's most iconic features is its buttresses. Buttresses were added in his 13th century to support the structure and allow larger and more elaborate stained glass windows to be created. Over the centuries, the cathedral has endured many challenges such as wars, revolutions and natural disasters. During the French Revolution, the cathedral was heavily damaged and much of its treasure was looted or destroyed. It wasn't until the 19th century that the cathedral underwent a major restoration project and the famous tower was destroyed in a fire in 2019.


On April 15, 2019, a devastating fire broke out in the cathedral, severely damaging its roof and spire. The world watched in horror as firefighters worked tirelessly to save the cathedral from total destruction. Although the fire was eventually extinguished, the damage was severe and it was unclear whether the cathedral could be fully restored.


Since the fire, a major restoration project has been undertaken to repair and restore the cathedral. The project faces challenges, including delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but is making progress. The cathedral is scheduled to reopen in 2024, just in time for the Paris Olympics.
